Export Your LinkedIn Data (2018)

I went to download my contact list for use in my shiny new CRM tool (more on that later), and the “download archive” button never became enabled.  That’s because LinkedIn has a broken dusty corner where the feature apparently doesn’t work, but if you search the help, you can find the correct endpoint (which looks the same but actually works). There’s all kinds of old posts out there about the broken version, so here’s an update:

A crazy wall of horizontally and vertically stacked old books with a rustic blue wood door in the center. The words "Support MindFuel Blog on Patreon are shamelessly plastered over this fine image

What Worked

I was able to get my data via this endpoint:
https://www.linkedin.com/psettings/member-data

Using the above, you can select what data you want, the “download archive” button will become enabled, and after clicking it you will see a response like this:

After about 10 minutes, you should receive an email with a link that lets you download the data you requested:

What Didn’t Work

Why post this? Because, what if this way works for you and the other doesn’t? Could happen! This endpoint didn’t work for me:
https://www.linkedin.com/addressBookExport

Although functionally it looks exactly the same, I couldn’t get the “download archive” button to become enabled. Now that I have visited the OTHER link, this URL seems to be confused as the button IS enabled but I can no longer select what data to download.

Curious?

I only downloaded my connections, and that arrived as a ZIP containing one Connections.csv file (and it is indeed comma delimited).  It has the basic stats: First Name, Last Name, Email Address, Company, Position, and Connected On (date and time).

Well, that’s that.
