Chapter 107 – The New Year

My phone rang. It does that a lot. Why isn’t “a lot” a compound word?  If “doghouse” is a compound word, it seems logical that “alot” would be a compound word.  One thing I did learn over Christmas, thanks to my younger imaginary daughter was that “paperclips” was a compound word.  Isn’t that cool?

Phew. After that completely-needed thought digression, my phone had stopped ringing and gone to voicemail.  I looked down at my phone, expecting to see a missed call from some creditor in Florida, or a call from one of cohorts telling me a system needed immediate attention.  I was surprised to see Dr. Thegan’s name on the missed call roster.

I checked my voice mail (hello, another potential compound word. C’mon people.)

“Hello Mr. Smith, this is Dr. Thegan.  We haven’t talked since before the holidays, so I wanted to check in with you.  You were going to schedule your next session after delivering…[I heard some papers crinkling]…a uh, Electronic Software Planner and a poster. Maybe with the holidays you need more time, but I just wanted again, to follow-up with you.  Talk to you soon.”

I deleted the message.

I knew what I had to do, but when I went back to my imaginary family for the holidays, I had come back with an adjusted schedule.  It didn’t include the poster project or the YouTube videos. I had 7 new business ideas, stated conversations with people about them, and I had a newfound commitment to write some music (on account that my imaginary wife had given me a very real gift card to Guitar Center – how cool is that?), I was talking to a friend about a couple new movie ideas…oh, and there was talk of a huge financial planning side project that would help me get out of debt even faster.  I HAD to do that if it came on-line.

See.  In the real world, the entertainment industry creates TV shows, movies, video games, and internet applications that all get in the way of people making progress on their life goals.  If the upper crust can keep the cyber-peasants (compound word!) placated, then it can put them to work, and leach their money back out in products, taxes and services…  Ever see the movie The Matrix?  Yeah, it is based on reality… the working class are actually “financial batteries” for the upper class.  They pump seed money in, it gets amplified through the work of the working class, and then they leach the profits back out.  Pretty clever economics if you ask me; albeit the roots are horribly primitive.

In any event, I have long freed myself from this cycle – by not being absorbed into the placation machine, I hold this fabulous “get out of jail free” card that I could use, like the blue pill, to see the world clearly and operate more freely within it.  So what do I do? I self-obfuscate by fragmenting myself across a sea of never-completed ideas. I have, in my attempt to start my New Year correctly, in fact, actually deviated from my original plan…AGAIN!

How convenient. I guess it’s time to get back on track. 10 days into the New Year, and I am just now getting back on track. Oh well. Better late than never, they say.
