“Reality” has always been a fascinating concept to me. It is 99.9999% nothing. And we are starting to realize that nothing, might indeed be something. Something we lack the ability to detect. If we think of the cells of our bodies – trillions of them, coexisting in a biochemical mesh so complex we have yet to comprehend it in totality – we can see a correlation. Try asking a cell a question like, “What’s your favorite miniseries?” The gap between the cell’s capabilities and the nature of the question is unfathomably large. There is no way a cell can ever answer that question (or at least, so we think, based on what we know today). Similarly, there is no way for us to detect/measure those aspects of the universe (or multiverse, etc) that are beyond the sensory, physics and math we currently employ. We’ve come to accept that things we cannot see are indeed there, all the way down to particles and waves.
In this way, we can say that dreams and realities are just a convention – we don’t know what either of them truly are, and one could argue (that’s foreshadowing) that reality is a subset of dreams. Reality is a dream which can be shared, it abides by some set of mechanics that allows for some degree of continuity and integration between beings who perceive themselves as separate entities in the same way each cell in our body is a separate entity. Cool. I can dig that.
If that is the case, and even if it is not the case, we can, to some extent, apply dream analysis to our waking lives. I could summarize these last couple paragraphs as, “Why the heck not?” but I contend walking the previous paragraphs is funnerer. I write for the sight-seers. I write for the journey. And this latest journey was yet again through the storm of my life.
What might the messages be? I took a peek at some internet musings on these topics:
- Dreaming About Storms: Change, Transformation, Intense Emotion, Fear of the Unknown, Emotional Release, Cleansing
- Dreaming About Life Guards: Guidance, Mentorship, Control, Restriction
- Pools are symbols of emotions, subconscious, and a place of leisure
- Beaches are symbols of transition, openness and emotional healing
As I read through the material, I realized how broad and generalized it could be – people could read into things a broad spectrum of potential interpretations. But it got even more interesting when I feed the scenario into the DreamClarify AI. I won’t share the whole conversation but one of the insightful responses was:
The contrast between the beach and the pool, with the absence of lifeguards at the beach and the presence of strict rules enforced by lifeguards at the pool, may suggest a change in your emotional state or circumstances. It could reflect a shift from a more open or unregulated phase to a more controlled or restricted situation in your waking life.

There were actually several responses like this that drew open the confluence of symbology to construct a more directly applicable interpretation of things. Yes, still broad, but definitely scoped down to something I could apply to my situation.
